If there is one thing I don’t like about the wedding world its how much pressure there is to do things a certain way. Empowering people to NOT have to stick with tradition was one of the reasons I got into wedding photography. I want people to get married (or not get married!) the way THEY want to, not the way they feel like they have to. I want them to have the day of their dreams, whatever that looks like for them. That’s why when Alexandra contacted me about doing a Colorado mountain elopement inspired shoot, I was all in.
Alexandra and Jose were planning a wedding back home in Miami. She even bought a dress! But then life got crazy as life tends to do. They decided they didn’t need a big wedding to validate their relationship and scrapped the idea completely. But she still had that beautiful dress sitting in her closet and was dying to wear it. They decided that a trip to Colorado was the perfect time to put on their wedding attire and take some photos!
If this shoot looks a lot like a Colorado elopement thats because that’s how it felt. It was sweet and romantic and these two, obviously, looked gorgeous.
We were less than two minutes into the shoot when I look down and see them scrambling over to a sketchy rock at the base of a waterfall – that was when I knew that this was going to be super fun! We explored the area for a couple hours, taking photos along the way, and ended down at the lake for sunset. I drove home with a full heart and all the love for the people who understand that marriage and life is what you make it – and that it’s totally ok to do things your own way.
Here are some photos from their day. Enjoy!
